Qatar Airways is celebrating a successful year of tremendous growth, network expansion and a record-breaking number of award wins at the end of this, its 20th year of operations.
One of the world’s fastest-growing airlines, Qatar Airways launched 11 exciting new destinations in 2017, including Auckland, New Zealand – the world’s longest commercial flight and Dublin, Republic of Ireland.
Alongside the launch of new destinations, Qatar Airways took delivery of 19 new aircraft in 2017, taking its total fleet to 212 aircraft.
Qatar Airways enjoyed a record-breaking year in 2017, with the airline claiming more global awards than ever before in its 20th year of operations.
Leading the host of awards received by the airline this year is the prestigious accolade of 2017 ‘Airline of the Year,’ awarded by international air transport rating organization Skytrax. Qatar Airways was named ‘World’s Best Business Class,’ ‘Best Airline in the Middle East,’ and ‘World’s Best First Class Airline Lounge’ at the Skytrax awards ceremony held in Paris in June.
Qatar Airways is pleased to announce that it will launch direct daily flights to Cardiff commencing 1st May 2018, making the award-winning airline the first Gulf carrier to service Wales and Southwest England.
The new service between Doha and Cardiff will be served by a Boeing 787 Dreamliner, with 22 seats in Business Class, offering passengers direct aisle access with its 1-2-1 configuration, and 232 seats in Economy Class.
On-board the Qatar Airways Boeing 787 Dreamliner, lower altitude-equivalent pressure, improved air-quality and optimal humidity coupled with large, electronically dimmable windows create dramatic vistas and provide passengers with extra natural light. Full-spectrum LED lighting will help them adjust to changing time zones, allowing passengers to arrive at their destination feeling refreshed.
The first Qatar Airways flight from Doha to Canberra, the capital city of Australia, touched down on 12th February 2018 at Canberra Airport. Canberra will be Qatar Airways' fifth Australian destination and doubles flight frequency into Sydney.
The new service operates via Sydney in both directions and is served by a Boeing 777 aircraft. The other Qatar Airways Sydney service is operated by the Airbus A380.
Qatar Airways proudly launched its new Business Class seat, Qsuite to outstanding global acclaim, bringing a First Class experience to the Business Class cabin. The first aircraft fully-fitted with Qsuite was launched on the Doha-London route during the summer, and was soon followed by Paris, New York & most recently Washington.
Qsuite, a patented Qatar Airways product, is already fast collecting awards for offering the industry’s first-ever double bed in Business Class. Adjustable panels and movable TV monitors allow colleagues, friends or families travelling together to transform their space into a private suite, allowing them to work, dine and socialise together.
