The 2017 School Games is an integrated multi-sport event for the most talented disabled and non-disabled school-age young athletes taking place at Loughborough University.
The competition re-enforces the experience of Olympic and Paralympic Games complete with an Opening Ceremony and an Athletes Village. This is made possible through National Lottery funding via Sport England.
Competition is held in a total of eleven current and future Olympic and Paralympic sports: Athletics, Cycling, Fencing, Hockey, Judo, Rugby Sevens, Swimming, Table Tennis, Volleyball, Wheelchair Basketball and Wheelchair Tennis, with the 12th sport being Girls Cricket as a demonstration sport for 2017.
- To provide transport from regional hubs around the UK & Ireland to and from Loughborough University by air, rail and coach.
- Pre-event operations involved securing 250 flight seats, 100 rail tickets and 60 coaches with multiple pick up/drop off points on route.
- The Events team were on-site for the duration of the event to ensure a smooth execution of the transport arrangements, meeting each arrival at the airport/campus/rail station and ensuring each coach departure at the end of the event included the correct items of luggage including their sports equipment onboard as well as the athletes.
A huge task taking into account this event was for an excess of 1800 athletes, team managers and staff coming from a total of 210 departure points.
