Over the weekend, Marriott announced that the database of its Starwood division had been hacked. The database is thought to contain records of up to 500 million customers with information including personal details such as name, address and passport number.
The Starwood hotel brands include W Hotels, Sheraton, Le Méridien and Four Points by Sheraton. Marriott said they would notify customers whose records were in the database and they have set up a website with information about the breach.
Marriott advises guests to change their passwords regularly and to have a different password for all the services used. It is also advised to monitor your Starwood Preferred Guest account for any suspicious activity.
Marriott has set up a dedicated call centre to answer any questions you have about the incident.
