After many years of discussions surrounding the Heathrow expansion, the decision for a third runway was approved today by Ministers and it is thought the project could be concluded by 2026.

The building of the new runway is likely to result in major disruption for local villages and campaigners have argued the new runway will breach UK legal limits on air pollution and increase noise pollution.

The Transport Secretary announced £2.6bn in compensation for residents and confirmed the project will be funded solely through private investment.

Whilst the development is not set to start for a number of years, it was made clear that this would benefit the whole of the UK, with the Transport Secretary describing it as a 'historic moment'.

MP's are set to vote over the next few weeks regarding the expansion plans.
